インターナショナルスクールでは入学前に面接があることがほとんどですが、学校によって保護者の面接で聞かれることは異なります。
このコラムでは、インターナショナルスクールの面接で親がよく聞かれる３つの質問と、答え方の英語サンプルをご紹介します。面接準備の際にお役立てください。
ただし、ここでの回答サンプルは例であり、合格するための模範解答ではありません。
回答する内容は必ずご家庭で考えられたものとし、例をそのままコピーするのではなく、ご自身の言葉で伝えるようにしましょう。
質問1：本校への志望理由（なぜ本校を選んだのか）について
質問例
“Why did you apply to this school?”
“Why did you select this particular school?”
“Why did you choose our school?”
“What made you choose to apply to this school?”
回答例
・After researching and visiting here last year, we thought this school would be the best fit for our child.
「去年学校の事を調べ、見学をさせて頂き、私たちの子供に１番合っている学校だと思ったからです。」
・I am sure that my child will receive good quality education here.
「この学校で素晴らしい教育が受けられると思ったからです。」
・This school focuses on building a bilingual skill, and it looks like there are a lot of activities and opportunities to participate.
「この学校はバイリンガル教育に力を入れており、その為に活動や機会がたくさんあるように思えたからです。」
・This school seems to have a great reputation for English education.
「この学校は素晴らしい英語教育の評判があるからです。」
・I am very interested in your school’s educational policy. You focus on not just to raise bilinguals, also focus on improving art skills, development of potential ability and non-cognitive skills.
「この学校の教育方針に大変興味があります。バイリンガル教育に力を入れているだけでなく、芸術、能力開発や非認知スキルを養っていることです。」
質問(2)お子さんの性格や強みについて／伸ばす必要があるところについて
質問例
“If you had to choose one word to describe your child, what would you choose?”
“What is your child strength?”
“What part of your child are you hoping to improve?”
“Describe your child.”

・My child is very curious about insects. When he finds something he doesn’t know, we go to the library together and look for the information.
「私の子供は昆虫にとても興味があります。何かわからない物を見つけた時には図書館に一緒に行き、調べます。」
・My child does not hesitate to express his feelings and opinions, but that sometimes cause some arguments with his friends.
「私の子供は感じたことや思ったことをはっきりと言えますが、時々そこからお友達と喧嘩に発展してしまうことがあります。」
・I would like my child to improve his thinking ability, so he will be good at solving problems.
「問題を解決に上手く対処できるように、思考力を身につけて欲しいです。」
質問(3)ご家庭の教育方針について
質問例
“What have you decided about your child’s future?”
“What are you hoping for your child?”
“What are your dreams and intentions for your child?”
“What is your family education policy?”
回答例
・I would like my child to look for every possibility.
「子供には色んな可能性を探して欲しいです。」
・I hope that my child will be successful globally.
「子供が国際的に活躍してくれればと願っています。」
・I would like my child to adopt global awareness.
「子供には国際的感覚を身に付けて欲しいと思います。」
・I would like my child to be able to adapt to any environment.
「どんな環境にも順応できる子になって欲しいと思います。」
番外編：PreschoolやKindergartenの面接で聞かれること
PreschoolやKindergartenの面接では、志望理由などの他に、お子さんの今現在の様子を聞かれることもあります。代表的な質問は以下です。
“Is your child potty trained?”
「オムツは外れていますか？」
“What are child’s eating habits?”
「お子さんの食生活はどうですか？」
“Is your child up to date on vaccination?”
「お子さんの予防接種は最新ですか？」
“How have you prepared your child for school?”
「学校生活の為にどんな準備をしてきましたか？」
などといった事を聞かれることが多い様です。答えを準備しておくことをお勧めします。
